This project is co-funded by the University of Utah - Department of Geology & Geophysics and by the Utah geological Survey. The seismic survey is designed to evaluate the following 1) structure of the valley along a representative transect from near surface to about 1 km deep; 2) shallow depth geometry of the faults responsible for the 1934 aearthquake; 3) structure of the sediment-basement interface and 4) the velocity structure of sediments within the basin. To improve HR seismic reflection imaging we will employ acquisition and processing techniques not normally used in HR seismic reflection imaging, such as the use of: 1) a densely spaced wide-aperture array of geophones; and 2) integration of multi-scale refraction tomography and Pre-Stack Depth Migration (PSDM) for seismic imaging purposes.
