*Research Associate in the Broadband Seismologcal Study of South East
Canada*

**

*A fixed term post for up to 24 months*

**

*Salary in the range of £32,750 to £35,420 per annum*

Applications are invited for a Research Associate to join a research
group in the Department of Earth Science and Engineering at Imperial
College, investigating crust and mantle seismic structure using
broadband seismology. This Leverhulme Trust funded project will be led
by Dr Ian Bastow at Imperial College.

Using data emerging from a new seismograph network in SE Canada, the
Research Associate will analyse passive-source seismic data from SE
Canada with a view to understanding the tectonic processes that shaped
Laurentia over billions of years and built the mantle keel beneath North
America. The applicant will be based at Imperial College’s South
Kensington Campus in London. Project partnerships with Lamont Doherty
Earth Observatory, Rutgers University, and Université du Québec à
Montréal will provide opportunities for visits to North America for
collaborative research work. In addition, the Research Associate will
participate in fieldwork in eastern Canada.

Applications are invited from candidates with a strong background in
broadband seismology and an interest in tectonics. Applicants must hold
a PhD (or equivalent) in Geophysics, Earth Sciences, Natural Sciences or
Physics. Experience working in the field with broadband seismic
equipment would be an advantage but is not essential.
