New full-time Research Professor position on geological hazards at Centro de Geociencias, campus Juriquilla of UNAM (México)
The Geosciences Center at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), Campus Juriquilla in Queretaro (www.geociencias.unam.mx), is looking for candidates to fill up a new tenure-track Research Professor position (Investigador Tiular A) in Earth Sciences. UNAM is the largest university in Mexico, and one of the highest ranked in Latin-America. The Geosciences Center employs around 55 Academic faculty members from various fields in the Earth Sciences and includes several modern facilities for Geological and Geochemical analyses as well as infrastructure for Geophysical and Geodesic field studies. The Geoscience Center also hosts the Revista Mexicana de Ciencias Geológicas, the highest ranked Earth Science Journal in Latin-America.
Candidates should have experience in the current focus fields of the Center: Geomorphology, Neotectonic and Structural Analysis, Geotechnical Analysis and Modeling. Preference will be given to strong candidates specialized in solving problems associated with the incidence of various geological hazards such as landslides, earthquakes, and volcanic hazards, among others. In particular the candidate should be able to apply modern methodologies for hazard assessment. The field of paleoseismology will also be considered in this profile. It is also desirable that candidates demonstrate experience in risk management and land use associated with geological hazards.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree and experience of at least 4 years in his/her field of specialty including peer-reviewed publications, and demonstrate ability for guiding students. The successful candidates are expected to develop their own research program, teach 1-2 classes a year and supervise students on the Bachelors, Masters and PhD level. Proficiency in Spanish at the time of appointment is an advantage, but not necessary. Salary will be according to the rules for university employees, but they may be complemented with substantial performance based stimulus from both the university and the Mexican National Science and Technology Council (Conacyt).
