Dear all,

I’m writing to you because you’re members of the Sharing Science network and also established scientists.

One of the concerns we in AGU’s Sharing Science team hear often from graduate students is that their advisors or departments are either dismissive of or completely oblivious to the value of doing science outreach and communication.

To begin to address this, we are starting an initiative to connect graduate students with established scientists who are also enthused about and engaged in sharing their science with public audiences. In doing so, we hope to help build a support network within the scientific community for those doing both science and outreach.

The initiative will be kicked off at AGU’s Fall Meeting this year, where mentors and students can meet. To do that, though, we need your help: if you are interested in being a “mentor” scientist who is both established in her/his field and involved in outreach, please fill out this form by the end of the month (Friday, 30 October).

Please note that this program is not restricted to scientists or students who are currently part of the Sharing Science program— feel free to share this initiative with your colleagues and with graduate students who are interested in doing science outreach (the profile for students is here

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely yours,
Olivia V. Ambrogio
