Good morning:

On Saturday, May 15, and Saturday, May 22, UAF Facilities Services will be conducting a planned maintenance power shutdown to the entire Butrovich Building to prepare electrical systems for the integration of a new backup generator for the Butrovich Data Center (BDC). The electrical system must be completely powered down to ensure safety for the technicians doing the work. These outages represent a culmination of multiple years of effort by the University of Alaska to harden the on-campus Data Center which hosts most critical systems, including the Alaska Earthquake Center’s servers.During these outages, the Earthquake Center will be unable to respond to earthquakes within the state or distribute any seismic data or products. Outage windows are:
May 15: 4:00am - 6:00pm AKDT
May 22: 3:00am - 5:00pm AKDTPrimary responsibility for reporting on major earthquakes in the state during these times will be handled by the USGS National Earthquake Information Center (https://earthquake.usgs.gov).Any questions can be directed to Matt Gardine (mgardin2<at>alaska.edu).
