Hi DAS RCN – Nate Lindsey (FiberSense), Paul Barford (Computer Sciences, U. of Wisconsin-Madison), Dante Fratta (Geological Engineering, U. of Wisconsin-Madison), and I invite you to submit an abstract to a session that we hope will offer a multidisciplinary view of vibration sensing on fiber-optic cable.

Description: Recent research detecting large earthquakes using changes in State of Polarization or optical phase on long-haul submarine cables is an exciting development for seismic sensing. These “borrowed” technologies of opportunity and other novel Distributed Fiber-Optic Sensing (DFOS) technologies can supplement and complement traditional seismometers and Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS). The goal of this special session is to bring together researchers from the Optical Transport Networking, Metrology, and Geophysics communities to explore the state-of-the-art and directions for the future.
