Dear Colleagues,

The explosion of geophysical data sets and the movement towards open access
data in recent years have made data citation, attribution, and licensing of
critical importance. Differing policies between data archives, data
providers, and publishers have generated uncertainty and confusion. The
upcoming merger between IRIS and UNAVCO to create the EarthScope Consortium
provides an excellent opportunity to have a broad community discussion on
these issues. To that end, a virtual workshop on geophysical data
citation, attribution, and licensing will be held over three days (October
17, 19, and 21) this fall. All data users, data providers, journal
editors, and other stakeholders interested in these issues are welcome to
attend.

The objectives for the workshop include:

- Identify approaches for consistent data citation and attribution within
the geophysical/geoscience communities in a way that works with most
publishers and scientific organizations.
- Discuss data set licensing options and implications.

Additional details, including how to register, will be coming soon. The
meeting website is

We hope to see you in October,

The Workshop Organizing Committee:
