The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (Geophysics Section)
at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich, Germany, is seeking
applications from enthusiastic young researchers for a position at the
level of assistant professorship in seismology. This position is
non-tenured and can be held up to 6 years. On successful completion of a
“habilitation” a prolongation for a further 4 years is possible. The
successful candidate is expected to hold a Ph.D. in Earth or related
sciences with experience in seismological research, to develop his/her
own research profile and cooperate with and/or complement the ongoing
Earth Science activities. These include the development of forward
modelling and inversion tools for seismic wave propagation, all aspects
of rotational motions (wavefield gradients in general) in seismology,
seismic hazard, earthquake physics, geodynamics, volcanology and others.
The successful candidate is expected to supervise graduate students and
teach courses in basic seismology (4 hr/week teaching obligation during
term time). Munich Geophysics runs a seismic network in Bavaria with a
special focus on the study of externally forced swarmquakes, and induced
seismicity, hosts the worldwide unique ROMY ring laser, and has a pool
of portable rotation sensors. The Department has a powerful
Linux-cluster (partly equipped with gpus) and access to local
supercomputer facilities. More information can be found at
www.geophysik.uni-muenchen.de. Complete applications must include a
statement of research interests (max 2 pages), CV, and names and
addresses of three referees. Deadline for applications is August 15,
2022. Later applications may be considered until the position is filled.
Applications should be sent to: Prof. Dr. Heiner Igel, Department of
Earth and Environmental Sciences, Ludwig-Maximilians-University,
Theresienstrasse 41, 80333 Munich, Germany, e-mail: Heiner.Igel<at>lmu.de.
Please forward to potential candidates. Apologies for multiple postings.
Kind Regards
Heiner Igel
