Dear all,

We would like to invite you to participate in and submit an abstract to our AGU2022 session:
S009 Frontiers in Microseisms and Earthquake Late Coda: Observations, Theory, and Applications.

The session will connect studies on different aspects of microseisms and earthquake late coda for new insights into constraining the structure of the solid Earth and understanding its interactions with processes in the ocean and atmosphere.

The meeting will be held on 12-16 Dec, 2022, in Chicago & Online.

Detailed Session Description:

Recent work has highlighted the significance of long-duration seismic records of microseisms and late coda of earthquakes. As novel data sources, the observations allow for new insights into the structure of the solid Earth and its interactions with processes in the ocean and atmosphere. Areas of advancement include: detecting and monitoring the sources of the observations (via cross-correlation approaches, back-projection and beamforming techniques, time-lapse analyses); understanding their generation mechanisms (ocean-land and ocean wave-wave interactions, deep-ocean generations of microseisms, role of the solid-Earth structures on local, regional and global scales); cutting-edge exploitation of the continuous seismic records (e.g., imaging the Earth's and planetary interiors, investigating processes in the ocean and atmosphere). This session connects scientists utilizing different aspects of these observations to provide a comprehensive and interdisciplinary overview of the new advances. We welcome contributions on both theoretical improvements and innovative applications in exploring microseism and earthquake-coda data.
