Seismology Educators, Robert Butler and I have posted a summary of the recent magnitude 8 event in Peru, including seismograms from three AS-1 instruments. This event was large enough to be well recorded on all of the educational stations. If you didn't record it, then contact me so we can work on getting your station working again! See: http://jclahr.com/science/psn/as1/peru07/index.html Cheers, John Lahr #################################/ John C. Lahr #############################… [more]

Attached is a slightly revised and more accurate labeling of the WLIN 24-hour seismograph display that I sent earlier. It turns out that the signals from the M5.8 Andreanof event at about 04:03 on Aug. 16 and the M5.6 Peru event at about 04:04 on Aug. 16 arrive at the WLIN station at about the same time. I've changed the label to "Andreanof" because it is the larger earthquake. -Larry Braile -- Lawrence W. Braile, Professor and Department Head Department of Earth and Atmospheric Scien… [more]

Here are some images of the earthquake activity in the last 24 hours including a labeled image of the 24 hour seismograph record for the WLIN AS-1 station. The USGS earthquake site (http://earthquake.usgs.gov) has information on these events including the loss of life and damage from the M7.9 Peru earthquake. -Larry Braile -- Lawrence W.
