Hi Greg, I have a number of Win98 computers that have USB ports. If the problem is that the USB port will not read a thumb drive, then you can download the necessary driver from the manufacturer of the thumb drive. Use a floppy disk or a CD to transfer the file that you download from the manufacturer onto your Internet PC to the Win98 computer's disk. Then install the driver and you're set to go. Keep the same directory structure. The year directory, such as 2007, must be directly below … [more]

Hi All, Our AS1 is currently running on an old Win98 machine that is not network capable and its USB ports are not enabled. It does have a zip drive. I aquired a newer machine, but I can't figure out an efficient way to move two years of data to the new machine. The zip drive is very slow and the disks don't hold much more than a month or two of data (does that sound right?). I could go back and note the dates of major events and just move the folders for those days, but could I just drop them… [more]

I've started creating a FAQ page for AS-1 operations. See: http://jclahr.com/science/psn/as1/faq/index.html Let me know if there are additional topics that should be added. An updated version of "Interpreting Seismograms -- A Tutorial for the AS-1 Seismograph" is available at: http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~braile/edumod/as1lessons/InterpSeis/InterpSeis.htm. You can also link to MS Word and PDF versions for convenient printing. Please let me know if you have comments or suggestions. I hope that the tutorial will be useful to AS-1 and other educational seismograph operators. -Larry Braile -- Lawrence W. Braile, Professor and Head … [more]

Dennis, I think you should be able to run with a gain of 20 or so. The trace should always show some vibration. Hi All, I am having trouble with my computer clock. Every morning when I come in I ping "atomic clock sync" and my clock is off by about 3.5 minutes. I have the program set to ping automatically but that only happens once a day. Is there a way to automatically ping more often? Why is my clock so inacurrate? J. Bob

Our record in Montana appears to be a classic textbook example of easy-to-read arrivals. We'll be using this one!!! Gretings, 1. Chris' solution worked. John's did not. See below. 2. Dang! I was offline during the Alaska quake. J. Bob Hi All, I am having problems with my recording. The recording never goes all the way to the right edge of the screen. It stops at 58 minutes and goes on to the next line. Does anyone know how to fix this? J. Bob Hi J. Bob Mine does this as well every now and again. Just remove and reconnect to your computer and reboot. This works for me. Cris L. DeWolf Hi J. Bob, I have … [more]

Hi J. Bob, I have seen the screen look like this when the sample rate printed in the bottom left of the screen had changed for some reason. It should be just a bit higher than 6 samples per second. Stopping and starting AmaSeis has, in my experience, corrected the problem. Let us know what happens. Cheers, John At 06:27 AM 1/9/2007, you wrote: >Hi All, >I am having problems with my recording.
