Hello,Would you please help me to read the files related to an event by means of SAC 's 'READCSS' command.
In CSS format, there is a folder including different files and folders, which is a little bit confusing. I read the IRIS manual for this topic but still the usage is vague for me.
Thanks in advance,
Makki

Re: Reading CSS files - Milton Plasencia - 2014-05-06 01:48:37
Hello,
I follow all steps in README and type the cammands in 'bashcr':
export SACHOME=/usr/local/sac
source ${SACHOME}/bin/sacinit.sh
alias sac='${SACHOME}/macros/init.m'
However, when I want to run SAC from terminal, it says:
bash: /usr/local/sac/sacinit.sh : permission denied
I also check the content of macro directory but unfortunatly there is no 'init.m'
Would you please help me to solve this problem

Hello,
I am amateur in SAC. In order to understand how to use READCSS I read the manual in http://seismolab.gso.uri.edu/~savage/sac/commands/readcss.html, however I cannot figure out much about it. There is a folder for some recorded events in CSS format. This folder consist of different files that really make me confused. Would you please help me to make this problem more tangible.
I find the command as follows:
sac2000 ### starts sac2000
readcss file.wfdisc ### read the wfdisc an…

In decoding the date format in SAC Pole Zero files produced by rdseed, a
time of Hour = 24, Minute=60, Seconds = 60.99999 is encountered.
Should an hour of 24 add 1 day to the date?
Should 60 minutes add 1 hour to the number of hours?
For instance, in the case of "1996.033.24.60.60.99999", should it be
decoded to:
Year = 1996
Month = 2
Day = 3
Hour =1
Minutes = 1
Seconds = .99999
Alternatively, how is "1996-02-02T24:60:60" as shown in the file below, to
be decoded?
Is…

Dr. PLASENCIA LINARES,
Again, thank you for your reply. I will use the start time, sample rate and
number of samples from the SAC file to determine the applicable Pole-Zero
duration. This end date numbering only becomes a problem if a later
Pole-Zero file shows a start date before the end of the Pole-Zero file with
Hours=24.
I am slowly verifying details,
Mike Padgett

Hello all,
I am hoping that someone can walk me through the installation process. I
am running OS 10.6.8 and I've gone through the steps in the README file
several times, but I haven't had any luck completing the installation.
I always get the error:
-bash: sac: command not found or
or
ERROR: Environmental variable SACAUX not defined.
Many thanks,
Nicholas Cline

Below is a Pole-Z file for network=CI, Station=PAS, channel=VHZ. It was
output from rdseed.
Questions:
1. Is the appropriate equation from "Pole-Zero Representation for
Analog Stages," page 159, equation 6?
2. Is the CONSTANT in the file In (+1.702831e+13) = Sd*A0?
3. How do INSTGAIN and A0, in the file relate to Sd, A0 and the
CONSTANT value of +1.702831e+13?
Thanks in advance,
Mike Padgett

For waveform data that downloads using Breq-Fast with Quality=Best, rdseed produces IDEP=Unknown and a type of "Time Series."
For these networks, what are the time series units and have instrument responses been removed?
Is raw data available that could be used to verify calculations?

The SAC manual lacks details when some of the seed files are a little
ambiguous.
For instance:
For IU, QSPA, Location=20, VHZ seed file:
SAC> read 2008.175.21.57.57.6228.IU.QSPA.20.VHZ.M.SAC
SAC> LH lists:
IFTYPE = TIME SERIES FILE
IDEP = UNKNOWN
DEPMIN = -1.089e+08
DEPMAX= 1.967e+08
What are these units?
If these units are displacement in nano-Meters, then has an instrument
response been applied or must one be applied with something like "transfer
evalresp to none ..…

Can anyone help me in generating a H-K stack plot(Zhu and Kanamori) to compute poisson ratio from teleseismic receiver functions? Is there any routine on SAC to do it?

Dear Sac users,
Sorry for adding more questions on instrument response. We have been trying to do instrument response removal and have had the following concern:
I was hoping you might be able to clarify an issue I'm having with the SAC TRANSFER function. In this example, I will use a polezero file, but I found the same problem with response files. My objective is to go from a velocity time series record to a velocity time series record with a removed instrument response.
There are two synt…
